SUMMARY:Workshop "Fundamentals of transcriptomics data analysis"
DESCRIPTION:The “Fundamentals of transcriptomic data analysis” is a three-day intensive workshop with insightful lectures and hands-on practical workshops\, carefully curated to ensure an engaging and enriching learning experience. This workshop is designed specifically for researchers\, who have little to no prior experience in omics data analysis. The workshop with include basics of bulk RNA-sequencing\, single cell RNA-sequencing and spatial RNA-sequencing with hands-on workshops on the analysis. \n\n\n\nOverview \n\n\n\nTranscriptomic data analysis has become an indispensable tool for researchers studying a wide range of biological phenomena. By examining gene expression patterns\, we can unlock the secrets behind cellular processes\, understand disease mechanisms\, and even explore potential therapeutic targets. In this workshop\, we take this excitement to a whole new level by placing a special emphasis on single cell and spatial transcriptomics—the cutting-edge frontiers of omics research. \n\n\n\nKey Highlights \n\n\n\n\nSingle Cell Transcriptomics Unveiled: Understand the principles and applications of single cell RNA sequencing\, and learn how to harness this technology to unravel cellular heterogeneity.\n\n\n\nSpatial Transcriptomics in Focus: Delve into the world of spatial transcriptomics\, uncovering its potential to decode tissue architecture and understand cell-to-cell interactions.\n\n\n\nHands-On Practical Workshops: Get hands-on experience working with single cell and spatial transcriptomic datasets\, using state-of-the-art bioinformatics tools and analysis pipelines.\n\n\n\nPersonalized Guidance: Our instructors understand that everyone learns at their own pace. That’s why we provide personalized guidance\, allowing you to get the most out of the workshop and address any specific questions you may have.\n\n\n\nNetworking Opportunities: Connect with fellow researchers and share your research at the elevator pitches. The workshop provides an excellent platform for you to build your professional network and collaborate on future projects.\n\n\n\n\nFormat \n\n\n\nThe lectures will be available in a hybrid format while the hands-on workshops will take place only in-person. \n\n\n\nAudience and Pre-requisites \n\n\n\nThis workshop is tailor-made for undergraduate and graduate students\, postdoctoral researchers\, and early-career scientists with little to no experience in omics data analysis. However\, there are some pre-requisites to attend the workshop: \n\n\n\n\nParticipants must have an introductory background in biology and/or statistics.\n\n\n\nParticipants must be familiar with R.\n\n\n\nParticipants are required to have a personal laptop/computer. The details on software/packages required will be sent to the selected participants.\n\n\n\nAt the workshop\, participants will be required to prepare 2-minute Elevator pitches to introduce themselves (and their research) to the group with a maximum of 2 slides. The slides can also be replaced with illustrations on a sketch board.\n\n\n\n\nLocation \n\n\n\nCenter of Molecular Life Sciences (ZMB)\, Kiel UniversityAm Botanischen Garten 11\, 24118 Kiel \n\n\n\nRegistration \n\n\n\nSubmit a concise research abstract to secure your spot in our transformative workshop focused on transcriptomic data analysis. Highlight your research interests and anticipated takeaways from the workshop. Up to 20 participants will be accepted for the in-person workshop based on the abstracts. There is no limit for the online participation. While accommodation will be arranged by the organizers\, please note that travel to and from Kiel will not be covered. However\, a limited number of travel grants are available to participants who apply during registration\, with decisions based on abstract submissions. Registrations for the in-person workshop are accepted only until 20th September 2023. Participants for the online lectures can register until 24th October 2023. \n\n\n\nContact \n\n\n\nYou can send your questions/enquiries to events@ikmb.uni-kiel.de.

SUMMARY:GHGA webinar: Single-cell RNA sequencing and data analysis
DESCRIPTION:GHGA (The German Human Genome Phenome Archive) is inviting you to the next episode of the Webinar Series: What is single-cell RNA sequencing and which protocols are used? What are common quality measures? How can I correct for quality issues? Which tools should I use to process my data\, and is there a data processing standard? The webinar will explain general analysis procedures and highlight workflows that are being used to unravel RNA sequencing results. After going deeper into single-cell analysis\, the webinar will explain buzzwords\, such as normalization\, dimensional reduction\, data integration\, and cell label transfer. \n\n\n\nThe webinar aims at students and researchers new to scRNA sequencing and its analysis workflows. The seminar will be given by GHGA workflows expert Florian Heyl. \n\n\n\nThe event is in English and will be held on 24 January 2023\, 16:00 CET (available afterward on demand). Attendance is free\, but registration is needed.

SUMMARY:Webinar: "How long reads are revolutionizing Plant Genomics"
DESCRIPTION:The first webinar of the NGS-CN webinar series is held by Björn Usadel from HHU Düsseldorf on the topic “How long reads are revolutionizing Plant Genomics”. To register to this webinar write an email to our officer Dr. Melanie Sapp: melanie.sapp@hhu.de\n \nBjörn Usadell short bio\nBjörn Usadel studied Biochemistry at the Free University Berlin and conducted his MSc research on Drosophila at the Rockefeller University.  Upon returning to Germany in 2001\, he conducted his PhD studies in the lab of Dr. Markus Pauly at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology\, Potsdam on identifying and characterizing novel cell wall genes using bioinformatics approaches. \nAfter a postdoc and group leader position with Prof Mark Stitt at the same institute\, he became full professor and director at RWTH Aachen University and the Forschungszentrum Center Jülich in 2011. Ín 2020 he moved to a joined position as Professor for Biological Data Science at Heinrich Heine University and Head of the Institute of Bioinformatics at Forschungszentrum Jülich. He has co-authored more than 150 publications and is an ISI highly cited researcher in Plant and Animal Sciences.

SUMMARY:Webinar workshop: Introduction to protocols.io and the art of writing protocols
DESCRIPTION:Research papers and protocol organization in private labs and companies often lack detailed instructions for repeating experiments. protocols.io is an open access platform for scientists to create step-by-step\, interactive and dynamic protocols that can be run on mobile or web. Researchers can share protocols with lab mates\, collaborators\, the scientific community or make them public\, with ease and efficiency. Real time communication and interaction keep protocols up to date with versioning\, forking\, Q&A\, and troubleshooting. Public protocols receive a DOI and allow open communication with authors and researchers to encourage efficient experimentation and reproducibility. \nThe first part of this workshop will give an introduction to protocols.io. You will learn more about protocols.io’s mission\, how to discover public protocols\, create your own protocols\, share methods with others\, and how to publish protocols. The second part of this workshop will cover “The Art of Writing Protocols”. You will receive practical tips on how you can make your methods more reproducible and you will be equipped with a list of best practices for writing protocols at the end of the workshop. \nPractical information \nThe workshop takes place after the WGGC2020 News&Views meeting in Bonn. Lenny Teytelman (CEO) and Anita Bröllochs (Head of Outreach) from protocols.io will conduct this webinar from Berkeley\, CA\, USA. It will be possible to attend from an organized conference room at the DZNE which will allow to take part in the group exercise proposed during the webinars\, but also anyone can join from anywhere through the ZOOM platform. \nRegistration \nFill out the registration form\, specifying if you wish to attend the seminar or join from somewhere else. In both cases you will receive the link to the webinar by email few days before the workshop.
